Negronis at North Coast Café

A classic cocktail with Lynton charm

There’s something about a Negroni that never goes out of style.

It’s bold without being brash. Refined without being fussy. Built from just three ingredients, it’s one of the world’s most enduring cocktails. And now, it’s part of our evening offering at North Coast Café.

Whether you’re a seasoned Negroni fan or just dipping a toe into the bitter, boozy world of aperitifs, we’ve created a small menu that honours the original while exploring a few elegant offshoots.

A short history of the Negroni

The Negroni was born in Florence over 100 years ago when Count Camillo Negroni asked his bartender to strengthen his Americano (a mix of Campari, sweet vermouth and soda) by swapping the soda for gin. The result was a drink that was bitter, punchy, and perfectly balanced. It’s barely changed since.

Equal parts spirit, vermouth, and bitterness. Stirred over ice. Served simply. It’s a drink that lets its ingredients do the talking.

What’s in a Negroni?

At its heart, the Negroni is a spirit-forward cocktail. No juice. No syrups. No fluff. Just the clean bite of a base spirit, the herbal complexity of vermouth, and the distinctive bitterness of Campari or something similar. Served over ice or up in a chilled glass.

But within that simple structure, there’s a lot of room to explore. That’s what inspired our menu.

Why drink a Negroni?

Because it’s grown-up and satisfying.
Because it wakes up your palate.
Because it’s equally at home before dinner or after dessert

We’ll even say this. It’s surprisingly good with a delicious bagel or one of our speciality scones!

When to enjoy one

The Negroni is a classic aperitif, but it doesn’t have to stop there. It’s just as good as a late-night sipper or as something to enjoy slowly with good conversation.

Negronis suit any moment that isn’t rushed. They’re made for when you’ve got time to taste, time to talk, and time to be.

Each is served with intention. Carefully stirred. Thoughtfully garnished. Built to bring out the best in every element.
