Entitled Customers: The Case of Sergio Munoz Vegas

Running a café means ensuring a comfortable and enjoyable experience for all customers while upholding certain standards and policies. Recently, we received a review from Sergio Munoz Vegas, Kingston upon Thames, which highlighted a growing issue of unrealistic customer expectations.

Let’s dive into the details and verify how some customers, unfortunately, believe they are entitled to flout common decency to suit their convenience.

The Incident

Sergio Munoz Vegas recently visited our café during a walk and requested a takeaway meal, as stated on numerous signs, Sergio was also told we don’t offer takeaway. He had already purchased food and drink from another establishment. However at this time, we didn’t know if the packaging was empty, pending disposal, as it sometimes the case. And in these circumstances we are always happy to dispose of used packaging if needed.

Sergio made an order and decided to sit down then brazenly start drinking his coffee from another cafe. So we politely enforced to him that he couldn’t drink takeaway drinks purchased from another cafe, inside our cafe. We would’ve thought that the reasons for not permitting this type of action would be clear. Primarily, it’s just disrespectful.

This policy ensures a fair experience for all our guests, and helps us maintain our business. After all we’ve invested our heart, soul and a lot of money into creating a beautiful place for people to enjoy eating and drinking our food.

Instead of complying or understanding, Sergio chose to express indignation in a “revenge review”. This follows that typical pattern when a person’s self-entitlement meets resistance.

Here are some snaps of Sergio Munoz Vegas and his companion with takeaway food and drink from another food establishment.

We are not a food court; we are a distinctive café with a firm yet fair set of policies driven towards providing a truly enjoyable and cohesive dining experience for our customers.

The Entitlement Mindset

What Sergio and others with a similar mindset fail to recognise is that our café’s policies exist for legitimate reasons. Allowing external food and drinks undermines the integrity of our business and disrespects the effort we put into cultivating a particular ambiance and experience for our diners.

For comparison, let’s reflect on Natascha Ng’s negative review where she criticised our café for not accommodating her desire to eat food from other establishments within our space.

We have spent our life savings on the North Coast Cafe, we’ve poured our hearts and souls into creating a beautiful environment for people to enjoy our food and drink. And for what? For Sergio Munoz Vegas to mince in, sit himself down with food and drink purchased elsewhere, and freely enjoy our ambience? We simply won’t tolerate it – why should we?

Conclusion

To customers like Sergio, who feel entitled to dictate the rules within our establishment: maintaining our café’s integrity and customer enjoyment means upholding our policies. We are not being “petty”; we are ensuring every customer receives an inclusive and premium experience, witnessed in our other exemplary reviews.

Here’s a gentle reminder Sergio: The world does not revolve around individual whims. Understanding policies and respecting the efforts of hardworking people and independent businesses goes a long way towards making the world a better place.

Be a better man Sergio!
