Secret Wine Confession:
Willowglen Gewürztraminer Riesling
Willowglen Gewürztraminer Riesling has been on our wine list for a while, behaving impeccably and not drawing attention to itself.
Meanwhile, it’s also the wine that somehow gets poured “just to check it’s still tasting right”. Repeatedly. Entirely in the interests of quality control.
Willowglen Gewürztraminer Riesling isn’t dramatic. It doesn’t arrive with opinions or demand a moment of silence. It’s dry-ish, softly structured and refreshingly uncomplicated. There’s enough freshness to keep things lively, but nothing sharp, shouty or exhausting. No heavy oak. No big gestures. It knows its role.
What this Gewürztraminer Riesling tastes like
It’s light enough to sip without commitment, but not so thin it collapses the moment food appears. The alcohol sits at a level best described as reassuring. You can have a glass, then continue your day without wondering when things escalated.
This is exactly why Willowglen Gewürztraminer Riesling works so well by the glass. It quietly fits in with half the menu without needing to be “paired” with anything in particular.
How we drink Willowglen at the café
We tend to drink it with savoury scones, soups and stews, or whatever happens to be nearest at the time. It’s equally happy on its own, preferably enjoyed while insisting you’re only stopping in briefly.
The BEST thing … Willowglen doesn’t care what you’re eating and it doesn’t care what time it is. Which probably explains how it became a favourite before anyone officially said it out loud.
So yes, this is one we’ve been quietly enjoying for a while now. Not because it’s clever or rare, but because it’s easy, reliable and slightly too drinkable for its own good.
Now that it’s out in the open, feel free to order it at your leisure!
